Rollsec Steel Profiles - Stud and Track

Statement of Contents
Continuously hot-dipped zinc coated steel in accordance with BS-EN 10142 or BS-EN 10147

1. Component materials

Raw materials
Steel
The amount of zinc and chrome depends on the size of the sheet metal and is defined as weight/m2
Example
Zinc 275g/m2 (both sides)
Chrome 10-20 mg/m2/side

Additives
Vegetable base emulsion lubricant & metalworking oil
The above additives are small quantities only (less than 5% of the total raw materials) and vary depending on the product and size

Recycled material *
On average, the sheet metal consists of 20% recycled scrap metal

Origin of raw material
The sheet metal is mainly purchase from steel mills within the EU

2. Production

Energy
Electrical energy is used in the processing of the product. Natural gas is used for heating the premises. Bottled gas is used for internal transport

Emissions to water
None

Emissions to air
None except for small quantities of solvents from the emulsion lubricant and metalworking oil in connection with rolling

3. Distribution of finished products

Production site
Bloxwich, Walsall, West Midlands, WS3 2XU, UK

Means of transport
The products are primarily distributed to customers by means of trucks

4. During Construction

No environmental impact
Made-to-measure lengths eliminate scrap at the construction site

5. During use

No environmental impact
Steel-frame buildings have a very long lifetime Properly maintained, galvanised steel does not rust. Designed for upwards of 60 years. The lifetime of the product is highly dependant on where it is used

6. Demolition

Steel constructions are easy to take apart. Thanks to standardised sizes, they are easy to identify and reuse

7. Waste

Steel is separated magnetically and recycled as scrap metal. Scrap steel has a high market value and collection systems are well established. The product is melted down and 95-98% recycled the zinc is also separated from the product by a heating process where the zinc is vapourised and collected.

8. Indoor Environment

The high degree of prefabrication of the products means a good, clean working environment with little heavy lifting.
Contact with the sheet metal is not harmful during normal handling. The surface of the sheet metal is however covered with a protective cromate layer. Be careful with hand hygiene after contact with sheet metal. Avoid inhalation of grinding dust when the sheet metal is cut.
If the sheet metal is heated through welding or by fire, zinc oxide evapourates. It is therefore important to avoid inhalation of the vapour. Steel does not absorb mositure and thus does not give rise to mold, nor does it emit hazardous substances. The use of electrical devices in the home is growing. Grounding/earthing of the steel frame screens electrical fields.
